The formula

What it contains exactly, why it was chosen that way, and why Balmsense feels different from a standard balm or cream.

A balm is not a cream. That sounds simple, but it makes a big difference to the formula.

A cream consists largely of water. Therefore, preservation is necessary: without preservatives, such a watery formula would quickly spoil.

Balmsense works differently. Not with added water as a base, but with concentrated balms. The ingredients must not only be good for the skin but also work together to form a stable, spreadable, and pleasant texture.

That is precisely where many balms become difficult.

Too cold, and they become hard. Too warm, and they become thin or runny.

Balmsense was developed to do things differently.

Face Balm

Stable in both cold and heat

Three natural smears of Balmsense balm on off-white paper as a visual explanation of the stable, creamy texture at different temperatures.

The Face Balm is designed to maintain the same creamy texture under normal conditions.

In cold weather, it does not become hard or stiff. In heat, it does not melt away or leak out of the stainless steel jar.

The combination of plant-based oils, butters, and waxes is calibrated so that the balm remains spreadable between approximately 0 and 50 °C. You don't have to wait for your balm to soften, and you don't have to worry about it suddenly becoming liquid in the summer.

A balm with a pH level

Most classic balms do not have a pH level. They consist primarily of fats and waxes, which fall outside the standard pH measurement range.

Due to the presence of glycerin and the way the formula is composed, the Face Balm can take pH into account.

Your skin naturally has a slightly acidic protective layer that helps your skin barrier and skin microbiome function correctly. A product that considers this aligns better with your skin's natural environment.

Glycerin as a humectant

Glycerin is a humectant: it binds moisture. Glycerin is often used in creams, but you see it much less frequently in balms.

In Balmsense, glycerin helps hold moisture to the skin's surface, while the fats and waxes help prevent moisture from evaporating too quickly.

Not adding moisture from the outside, but helping to retain what your skin already has.

Waxes for protection and a matte glow

The plant-based waxes in the Face Balm form a thin protective layer on the skin. Not heavy or sticky, but soft and supportive. If we didn't cleanse our skin at all, like most animals, our skin would have the chance to develop that necessary wax layer itself.

In addition, they provide a calmer, matte appearance. Once most of the oils have been absorbed, the skin continues to look softly cared for: beautifully radiant, but not excessively shiny.

Colloidal oat starch

The Face Balm contains colloidal oat starch: finely milled oat starch known for its softening and soothing effect on the skin. It is well-suited for skin that feels dry, sensitive, or irritated.

In this formula, it also contributes to a softer, matte result.

The scent of the Face Balm

The scent of the Face Balm is spicy, floral, and slightly resinous.

Frankincense — warmth and depth.

Rosemary — clear and green.

Patchouli — an earthy, warm undertone.

Palmarosa — soft and subtly rose-like.

Rose geranium — floral and rounded.

Together, they give the Face Balm a scent that is not sweet, not heavy, and not "wellness-like." Rather, it is warm, clear, and mature.

The essential oils were not added as a separate perfume layer. They are part of the balm experience: the moment it releases its scent due to the warmth of the skin. Essential oils develop throughout the day, and their scent fades faster than that of synthetic perfumes.

01-Face Cleanser / CL

Cleansing Balm

The Cleansing Balm works from the same formula logic. No added water as a base, no added preservatives, and a stable balm texture that is easy to dispense and spreads well over the skin.

This balm also remains spreadable between approximately 0 and 50 °C. That is especially important for a tube.

Cleansing without foam

The Cleansing Balm cleanses without foam. Makeup, sunscreen, sebum, and dirt adhere to fat-like substances on the skin. The oils in the balm help to gently loosen them.

Then you add lukewarm water. The balm turns into a milky emulsion and can be rinsed off or wiped away with a warm cloth.

Clean doesn't have to feel tight

Your skin feels clean afterwards, but not tight.

Glycerin and pH

pH strip, a drop of glycerin on glass, and a creamy Balmsense balm texture on off-white paper as a quiet explanation of pH and moisture binding.

The Cleansing Balm contains glycerin. Not as a humectant — cleansers work differently for that — but for the pH regulation of the formula.

Just like with the Face Balm, the pH has been consciously considered. Many balm cleansers do not account for this. Balmsense does not see cleansing as stripping everything away, but as cleaning without unnecessarily unbalancing the skin.

The scent of the Cleansing Balm

The Cleansing Balm has a fresh, warm scent of mandarin and ginger.

Mandarin — a soft citrus note, clear but not sharp.

Ginger — warm and slightly spicy.

A lovely scent for the start of the day, or to remove the day from your face.
